Solar in Broomfield County

Broomfield is one of the six counties United Power serves, and utility maps show it covering parts of the city alongside Xcel. Which one you have determines your net-metering terms and whether time-of-use applies: Xcel’s on-peak window is 5–9 pm on weekdays, while United Power sets its own rates.

Broomfield requires a permit for every PV system. The submittal includes a site plan showing every piece of equipment (including any battery), a three-line electrical diagram, racking specs rated for 110 mph wind and 30 psf snow load with a Colorado-stamped engineer’s letter, and a stamped structural evaluation of the roof.

A signed electrician’s affidavit on grounding, bonding and roof work replaces the mid-point rooftop inspection, and a final inspection is done with panelboards and the interconnection open. Permit fees are based on the system’s full value before rebates.

Unlike most Colorado jurisdictions, Broomfield licenses contractors and electricians itself, and the permit won’t be issued without a Broomfield-licensed electrician named on it. Ask any installer you’re considering whether they hold these licenses before you sign.
