Golden’s rebates are closed for 2026
The City of Golden has offered rebates of up to $3,000 for owned solar systems and up to $3,000 for battery backup, along with rebates for Level 2 EV charging and other electrification upgrades. When we checked on September 23, 2026, the city said its 2026 program had reached its available budget and was closed to new energy rebate applications. That covers solar and batteries; the page still lists the Level 2 charger rebate, so ask the city whether charger applications are still accepted.
If the city funds a 2027 program, it may reopen. We don’t count any Golden rebate in current estimates, and we’d suggest checking the city’s rebate page before assuming one will be there.
Xcel service and the evening peak
Golden is served by Xcel Energy, so the same net metering credits and 5–9 pm weekday time-of-use peak apply here as in Denver and Lakewood. What differs is the sun: homes tucked against North and South Table Mountain or near the canyon mouth can lose late-afternoon light to terrain earlier than homes on open ground, which lowers the share of production solar can deliver in the late afternoon.
Permits through the Golden Building Division
Golden issues its own building and electrical permits through the city Building Division rather than Jefferson County. As far as we could confirm, Golden does not use SolarAPP+ full review. Homes in older neighborhoods near downtown may also have design considerations if they’re in a historic area; we check before designing.
Wind, wildfire and hail at the canyon mouth
Golden gets strong downslope winds off the foothills, which puts real load on racking and roof attachments. Its western edge borders open-space foothills, and Xcel’s wildfire shutoffs in 2025 and 2026 included parts of Jefferson County, so backup power is a practical question for many Golden households.
