In Golden, two homes a mile apart can have very different solar access. Lots under the table mountains or near the canyon lose winter sun earlier. We run a site-specific shade model rather than using a generic metro production number, because that’s where Golden estimates go wrong.
Should you wait for a 2027 city rebate?
The city’s solar rebate was up to $3,000 for owned systems when open. There’s no guarantee it returns in 2027 or at what amount. Waiting a few months may be reasonable if you’re undecided; waiting a year for an uncertain rebate usually isn’t worth the lost production.
If you lease or use a PPA, the city’s rebate didn’t apply to non-owned systems anyway, and the owner may still claim federal §48E for systems in service by the end of 2027.
When solar doesn’t pencil in Golden
