If the car is home during the day — work-from-home, retirement, a second vehicle — set the charger to follow your solar. Some chargers, including Enphase’s IQ EV charger, can be set to prioritize surplus solar.
Evening and overnight charging
If the car is away during the day, it charges from the grid at LPC’s self-generation rate. Check which LPC rate plan you’re on before choosing a schedule; the right schedule depends on whether your plan has time-based pricing.

For systems installed or expanded after January 1, 2025, exports earn a value-of-solar bill credit, which is below the retail rate. Systems installed before then keep retail-based credits through January 2040. Self-generation customers pay a higher fixed monthly customer charge and a lower energy charge.

Should I charge my EV from solar in Longmont?

We haven’t confirmed one as of September 2026. The federal §30C credit ended June 30, 2026.
Do I need a permit for a Level 2 charger in Longmont?
Yes, it’s electrical work. Inside city limits, the Longmont Building Department issues it; we pull it as part of the install.
